Nashik (Correspondent): Under the ‘Harit Kumbh – Harit Monsoon’, or ‘Mission Green Monsoon’, initiative being conducted as part of the Unnat Nashik Abhiyan and in preparation for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela, 6,000 saplings were planted in Nashik on the second Sunday, 5 July.
A total of 2,600 saplings were planted in the Nashik Vanrai–Peacock Garden area of Mhasrul, while 3,400 saplings were planted at Grape County Resort on Trimbak Road.
State Water Resources and Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan said that, in view of rising temperatures, El Niño and climate change, tree plantation has become an urgent need. He appealed to citizens to make ‘Green Nashik’ a people’s movement. The campaign has a target of planting one lakh trees, and their long-term protection and care will determine its real success.
Tree-planting activities will be conducted every Sunday from 28 June to 25 October 2026. Mahajan said the tree-plantation model at Grape County Resort could serve as an example for others and praised the work of Pravin Chavan and his family.
Responding to a request from international swimmer Tanvi Chavan, Mahajan assured that efforts would be made to develop an international-standard sports hub in Nashik.
