Tree plantation carried out by Minister Girish Mahajan; 2,600 trees planted in Mhasrul and 3,400 in the Trimbak Road area.

Nashik (Correspondent): Under the Unnat Nashik Abhiyan and in preparation for the upcoming Nashik–Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela, the ‘Harit Kumbh – Harit Monsoon’, or ‘Mission Green Monsoon’, initiative is being implemented. On its second Sunday, 6,000 trees were planted across the city.

The plantation included 2,600 trees in the Peacock Garden area of Mhasrul and 3,400 trees in the Grape County Resort area on Trimbakeshwar Road.

Speaking to participants, State Water Resources and Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan said that rising temperatures, the climate-change crisis and environmental challenges make large-scale tree plantation an urgent need. He said that ‘Green Nashik’ should become a movement reaching every household, rather than remaining only a government programme.

He appealed to Nashik residents to participate in large numbers in the environmental initiative. He also emphasised that citizens should not stop at planting trees, but should accept responsibility for their protection and long-term care.

The campaign aims to plant one lakh trees. Their preservation and care will be the true measure of the initiative’s success. Planned plantation drives will be conducted every Sunday from 28 June to 25 October 2026.

Mahajan praised the tree-plantation work at Grape County Resort and said that the project adds to Nashik’s pride and can serve as a model for others. He also took note of international swimmer Tanvi Chavan’s request and assured that efforts would be made to establish an international-level sports hub in Nashik.

Mayor Himgouri Aher-Adke, MLC Gokul Gite, Kiran Chavan, Laxman Savji, corporators Dipali Gite and Rupali Nanaware, environmental expert Shekhar Gaikwad, Manoj Sathe, former standing committee chairman Ganesh Gite, BJP city president Sunil Kedar, vice-president Nilesh Bora, Sandeep Jadhav, Cycling Association officials, representatives of social organisations and citizens were present.
